Labradoodle Grooming

Doodle Grooming

Protect your beloved labradoodle! Your dog’s coat insulates him from both cold and heat!  Get your doodle to a professional groomer once a month.

Waiting until your doodle is so matted that your groomer has to shave him down close to the skin is not healthy! We get your Desert Waves puppy used to grooming early on.

A lot of science and effort has gone into your Desert Waves labradoodle.  Show your pride of ownership with regular grooming and our favorite grooming products!

Chances are you have decided to bring home a labradoodle in part because you want a low-shedding dog and you think they are handsome dogs. Multigeneration labradoodles have lovely low-shedding coats, but to keep them looking & feeling great requires regular grooming.

Here are some tips to help your labradoodle get the look our dogs have.

Grooming Must Haves

These recommendations come from many years of trial and error.  Save yourself the hassle!

1. A Pin Brush that won’t scratch your labradoodle like other brushes and make him hate grooming: The Chris Christensen Mark III Slicker Brush

2. The Best Dematting Comb – Chris Christensen NTS Staggered Tooth Comb

3. Detangler helps comb out the matts that non-shedding dogs get: Cowboy Magic Detangler

4. To keep your labradoodle lustrous and smelling great: Chris Christensen Shine For Sure

5. To bathe your puppy at home: Chris Christensen Ice on Ice Detangling Shampoo and Conditioner

You don’t want to bathe your labradoodle over 4 months of age at home unless you have a dog blower and know how to use it. Letting the coat dry naturally will cause matts.

6. To reduce the build up of tartar and dental cleanings and to keep your dog’s breath fresh use this dental spray: Pets Are Kids Too Premium Pet Dental Spray

7. Aloe Ear Wipes

8. Dog Ear Swabs

Puppy Grooming Tips

  1. Keep Ears Dry: Be careful not to get water in your puppy’s ears & dry them after bathing with a finger in a towel to prevent ear infections. Do not use a human Q-tip. The ear canal is larger in dogs and you don’t want to puncture his ear drum.
  2. Water Temperature – I’ve learned that each puppy has a temperature that is most comfortable for them. Start with lukewarm water. If puppy is wiggly try adjusting up or down a little until puppy is calmer.
  3. Brush often at home
  4. Grooming Frequency : Once a month. Begin going to a groomer monthly at 4 1/2 – 5 months of age for a complete bath, blow-out and clip.

ALAA Grooming Guidelines

The ALAA has produced a Grooming Manual to help you get your labradoodle looking like the classy well-bred dog he is. You can share this with your groomer

Groomers are often unaware of the proper labradoodle cut. You’ve invested a lot in your fabulous labradoodle, so don’t let him look like a poorly bred poodle. Sadly, that is often what they come out of the groomer’s shop looking like.
